Flying

This image displays the gracefulness and beauty behind a fierce, highflying dunk. Every night during a showcase basketball game the crowd is roaring ready for tip off, and both teams are fearless as they look into each other’s eyes. As the game goes along there is only one thing that gets the crowd to stand up out of their seats and makes them yell and scream at the top of their lungs; a slam-dunk. There is nothing better than a player flying through the air only to slam the basketball home over the other team's player creating a poster image. This imagine I created shows how a dunk can be the most spectacular thing you see in basketball. The beauty comes from players twisting and turning their bodies as they hang in the air for what seems like eternity' but it's really only a quick second. Seeing a player fly through the air is like a bird soaring through the sky as the sun slowly sets in the background, and this is what I am trying to represent in this colleague of images. I am trying to show the public and my viewers just how graceful and forceful a slam-dunk can represent. Player’s make a living off being the highflyer on the team, as fans pour into arenas to see this highflying show.

I took three college player's Demar Derozan, Andre Dawkins, and Miles Plumlee who putting together three graceful dunks. I felt that these images portrayed the beauty of the dunk the best, and these three dunks really jumped out to me. I took these three dunks and put them infront of a sunsetting in the background (what is more beautiful than a sun setting in the night sky), where I then faded the three images to make them have the apprence that it was like a angel floating through the air.

These images take on the literal meaning of how a dunk can take shape and the feeling it gives the audience. I was not trying to put a hidden message in this image, but solely trying to portray the elegance of the slam-dunk. I wanted my viewers to take on a new appreciaiton of the dunk in the college game. If you watch Sportscenter and the top 10 plays during the basketball season, the dunk is constantly the top highlight night in and night out. In today's game the dunk is getting more powerful as player's atheltic abilities grow. Not everyone can get off the basketball floor to hang up in the air to only slam down the basketball on a 10 foot rim.
